The 2011 Run for the Roses Kentucky Derbal Gala was held Saturday May 7st, 2:30 to 6:00 PM on the Top Floor of the Inter-Continental Kansas City At the Plaza Hotel.
Patrons and Guests gathered at the sound of the bugle for the Fourth Annual Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Benefit for The Mission Project. The Mission Project enables capable adults with developmental or cognitive disabilities to live independently and safely in community with minimal support.
The event included a silent auction, "betting" on favorite horses by buying raffle tickets in the horse's name, Derby fare, an open bar with the Mission Project's signature drink - the Mission Julep, and prizes for best-dressed couple, bestdressed individual, and best hat.
"The two most exciting minutes in sports," AKA "the run for the roses" were shown on a big-screen TV to the sound of the crowd cheering for their favorite horses.
